Michael is a retired Knight of the Cross, and therefore is well used to facing supernatural threats of every stripe. His reaction to being confronted by such creatures, assuming they had intent to harm him, would be to harm them right back, using whatever came to hand.

Despite being in his late fifties, he keeps fit, and despite the injuries sustained on Demonreach that forced his retirement, is still more than capable of holding his own in a fight. He owns a set of chainmail armour forged by his wife Charity, who also acts as his sparring partner to help him keep up his skills. He is a man of deep Christian faith, and his faith gives him a protection of its own - for example, a vampire cannot touch him without being burned. He sometimes gets visions from angels telling him what he is to do or where he is needed, but sometimes this guidance is a subtle skewing of chance ensuring Michael is at the right place at the right time that his aid is needed.

In his everyday life, he is a skilled carpenter and construction worker, performing all the renovations and extensions to his house himself, as well as building treehouses for his family. He is devoted to his wife and their seven children.
